Value Chain Analysis of Namgang Chilli: The Produce of Pakshikha, Chukha, Bhutan

Chilli is the most ubiquitous spice used in Bhutanese cuisine. Almost all dishes Bhutan contain chillies various forms. produces many variants of chilli, one which Namgang chilli. Commonly known for being hottest and tastiest Bhutan, it cultivated Pakshikha, Bongo Gewog, Chukha. This study aimed at identifying value chain actors their roles, margins, mapping out its overall chain. The quantitative qualitative data this were obtained from 29 49 chilli-cultivating households Pakshikha. Other published sources also referred gathering secondary required study. analysed using descriptive statistics, was performed to identify supply linkages. Margin analysis conducted assess gained by each player identified input suppliers, farmers, transporters, retailers, consumers. Farmers, transporters share 53.6, 28.7, 5 percentage margin respectively. Some critical constraints challenges faced farmers are rising pest infestation; lack awareness about modern tools techniques; agency support; motivation encouragement mass commercial farming; no initiative organizing farmers’ cooperative/group; ack crop protection mechanism. findings suggest that chilli underdeveloped. Therefore, relevant agencies should intervene encourage form groups/cooperatives cultivation. could be provided with technical supports knowledge training improve efficiency production marketing commodity.
